Jim Morgan was an infantry soldier in the Royal Australian Army serving for 9 years. In 2014 after ISIS appeared on the radar, the Australian Government committed troops back over to Iraq primarily in a capacity of training local Army and Police forces to be able to combat ISIS. Jim Served 8 months in Iraq but upon returning to Australia and with no more over seas trips on the horizon, He along with many of the troops that he served alongside became disillusioned with staying in the military.
This episode covers the story from Jim joining the military and serving over seas, returning and then the events and frame of mind that lead him to want to discharge and rejoin civilian life. We chat about some of the psychological battles that Jim had in this process, and how not all soldiers suffer from PTSD, but just through some of the processes and activities upon his return he experienced a decline in mental health.
