Ep #5: Dennis Rush
Dennis Rush is young farmer and grazier from Texas on a property called Hopewood. Texas is a small country town on the Queensland and New South Wales border, situated on the Dumaresq River. Like many rural and remote parts of Australia, Texas is in the midst of the worst drought on record, with many farming families pushed to their limits and unable to continue operating, unsure of what to do next.
In January 2019, Dennis recorded a powerful speech to camera from his home at Hopewood, laying out his beliefs about the way farming communities were being portrayed in the media and the current drought situation. His video went viral, attracting attention from various media outlets and opening up discussion right around Australia. We sat down with Dennis to discuss all things from drought and farming to mental health and sense of community in the bush.
