Ep #35 - Sam Gardel
Sam Gardel is an Electrician from Brisbane and one-time back-rower for the Italian Azuri during the 2013 Rugby league world cup. Gardy’s story is a compelling one and one that many young trade business owners would be able to relate to. As a young electrician, Sam had the opportunity to have a crack at a football career, however not believing that his heart was fully in it, made the choice to focus on growing his prospering electrical business. However, after investing heavily into his team and business, everything was pulled out from under him leaving him in financial distress. In the podcast, Sam opens up to us about what happened at the time that his first business came crashing down, and the road he took in rebuilding what he had started.
We chat about the hard work and sacrifices made to get back up on his feet, and the challenges that he faced during that process including turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms to blow of steam, justified by the long hours he was working. Within this story is also the individual Journey that Sam has been on, putting in the work to take better care of his mind and body which has not only had a positive impact on his business, but as the leader in his own business, has flowed on through his team as well. This is an awesome yarn about the power of leading by example, with a couple of stories about school boy sport and how he ended up running on for Italy.
