It's that time again legends! Announcing our coveted Business of the Month for September 2021...Stowe Australia. Recently we caught up with the team at Stowe Australia and had a chat with the crew about how adopting TradeMutt workshirts as their uniform has impacted their employees, clients and anyone they deal with.

For this piece we were lucky enough to chat to Managing Director Scott Gandy from Stowe, who explained that Stowe was introduced to TradeMutt by an industry colleague in Brisbane. 

Scott also explained the company's wider strategy when it came to the rollout of TradeMutt shirts on site. So far, Stowe Australia has devised an internal program that deals with the topics of mental health and suicide prevention in the construction industry. At the completion of the two day program, each employee who participated receives a TradeMutt shirt.

The purpose of this course is to make sure that there is someone on site who is equipped with the skills to support someone if they open up and help them reach out further for professional mental health support.

These people wear TradeMutt as a way to signify means that the person who is wearing a TradeMutt shirt on site is a safe person to chat to about mental health.

At the moment, Stowe has about 70 - 80 employees who have completed this course. Generally, the company has tried to encourage middle management players such as foreman and leading hands to complete the course. This is because these are the people who are on the coalface of what is happening on site but also the people who have the power to takes things higher if needed.

The team at Stowe were also generous enough to chat to us about the results they have seen since implementing the TradeMutt approach.

What impact have the TradeMutt shirts had on your staff and company culture?

They have definitely stirred a conversation with people keen to know the meaning of the shirts and once they hear that they are promoting mental health awareness the response is overwhelmingly positive.

What impact have the TradeMutt shirts had on your customers?

Many customers have not heard about Trademutt so it is an opportunity to raise awareness.

What stories of impact have come out of your business wearing TradeMutt gear?

We have had staff comment that they have lost family or friends to suicide which is not something that is usually talked about and I think it provides people an outlet to share experiences that they have been carrying around.

Why does your business support TradeMutt?

We see it as a great vehicle to get people talking and opening up and it demonstrates to our staff and customers that our business has a progressive culture that supports mental health.

Would you recommend TradeMutt workwear to other businesses and if so why?

We would definitely recommend the Trademutt workwear as there is no down side to the colourful workwear. It promotes inclusiveness in the business and gets people talking to each other and having fun.
